Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and five others have been charged with “conspiring to commit subversive activities”.

Owino’s lawyer claims he was not informed of the reason for the arrest and was denied legal counsel.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, along with five others, has been charged with conspiring to commit subversive activities. The charges stem from their alleged involvement in the ongoing anti-government protests.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, representing Babu Owino, has raised concerns about the arrest process. According to Njiru, Babu was not informed of the reason for his arrest, and he was denied the right to have legal counsel present during the arrest. Additionally, he was not promptly brought before a court of law, as required by law, within 24 hours of his arrest.

The MP was arraigned at Milimani Law Courts later this afternoon for the subversion charges after being detained at the Nairobi Area Traffic Police Headquarters.
