Veron Ntinyari, a 17-year-old Form 3 student at Ukuu Girls Secondary School in Meru County, died on May 31, 2023 after choking on a rice ball during lunchtime.

According to reports, Ntinyari was playing football with her friends when she started to feel unwell. She then went to the school’s dining hall to eat lunch. While eating, she choked on a rice ball and began to struggle to breathe.

Her friends rushed to help her and performed CPR, but she was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation due to choking.

Ntinyari’s death has shocked the community and has raised awareness of the dangers of choking. The school has since implemented new safety measures to prevent future tragedies.
