The High Court in Nairobi has postponed the verdict in the murder case involving Joshua Irungu (Jowie) and former TV news anchor Jacqueline Maribe to December 15, 2023, due to the judge’s illness. The two are accused of killing businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2018.
The High Court in Nairobi has rescheduled the verdict in the murder case against Joshua Irungu, also known as Jowie, and former TV news anchor Jacqueline Maribe to December 15, 2023.
High Court Judge Grace Nzioka was initially set to deliver the ruling today, following the conclusion of the trial in July. However, it has been reported that she was unable to do so due to illness.
The two former lovers face charges related to the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani, who was found dead with her throat slit at her Nairobi home in September 2018. The trial concluded in July, with the defense presenting their final submissions. Irungu and Maribe, through their lawyers, requested the court to acquit them, arguing that the prosecution had failed to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
Justice Nzioka, addressing the accused and their legal representatives, stated, “I am not in a position to deliver this judgment as scheduled; I will allocate it a fresh date.” She also informed them that she would be on leave in November.
Maribe and Jowie are currently out on bail, awaiting the verdict in this closely-watched case.
