Raila Odinga, former Kenyan Prime Minister, has officially launched his campaign to become the next chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC). The launch event took place on August 27, 2024, in Nairobi, with strong backing from East African leaders, including President William Ruto of Kenya, Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, and South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir.

Raila, who aims to replace Moussa Faki of Chad, emphasized his vision for a united Africa focused on addressing identity conflicts, poverty, and climate change.
