The Kenyan government has identified and flagged 16 recruitment agencies in Eldoret after investigations uncovered their involvement in fraudulent schemes promising non-existent jobs in Canada.
More than 300 people lost significant amounts of money to these scams.
The government urges job seekers to verify job offers through the National Employment Authority (NEA) and ensure foreign employment contracts are authenticated by Labour officers before committing. The number of private recruitment agencies has been reduced from 1,000 to 500 following a rigorous vetting process.
Legal actions are being pursued against the flagged agencies. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is investigating the cases to hold the perpetrators accountable and seek justice for the victims. Affected individuals are encouraged to report incidents to the DCI and seek legal guidance.
