Eldoret has officially attained city status, marking it as Kenya’s fifth city after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru.

The elevation was celebrated in a historic ceremony where President William Ruto presented the city charter to Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii. It’s known as the “City of Champions” due to its high altitude and production of world-class athletes.

Situated in the Rift Valley and serving as the capital of Uasin Gishu County, Eldoret is home to over one million people and serves as a hub for agri-processing, industry, and innovation.

The city also offers diverse attractions for tourists and residents alike, including natural wonders like Chepkiit and Koromosho Falls, cultural sites like BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, and the educational Eldoret Museum. Eldoret’s vibrant blend of history, nature, and culture makes it a dynamic destination as it continues to grow and develop under its new city status.
